HOW TO LEAD IN THE NEW NOT-NORMAL
The Covid pandemic was not a normal period, and our economies have not been behaving normally as a result. Everyone yearns for a return to normal. Folks are engaged in “revenge travel”, but turning up to massive, deadly heatwaves. Some people call it the new normal, but I consider that too comforting given our true challenges. I prefer to call it The New Not-Normal. The cliche of constant change is not a cliche anymore as AI bursts on the scene, and our climate keeps bursting the scene. Leadership will certainly need to be adaptive in this challenging period, and I have already written lots about how to engage in adaptive leadership. In this article I explain how it will also need to be courageous and compassionate if it is going to make any difference.
